This piece is a narrative and final report of 19th century explorations for a route for a Pacific railroad, near the forty-seventh and forty-ninth parallels of north latitude, from St. Paul to Puget Sound, an expedition laid out by Isaac I. Stevens, Governor of the Washington Territory. This print was initially part of a report made on the explorations and surveys of the crew, in an attempt to ascertain the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.

This specific original lithograph holds a COA from Gerhardt H. Felgemaker, Printseller, testifying to it as an "Original hand and printed color stone lithograph by Sarcony, Major and Knapp, in NYC in 1865." COA Reference #: 0201076
